About Me

About the Author

Michael Arnone is a father of eight, grandfather of eighteen, a second -generation American born in Chicago and transplanted to Los Angeles in 1953.  After a long career in real estate sales and loan origination, Mike is an empty-nester, living happily with his wife, Karen, in Vacaville, enjoying their grandkids.  Master of the Waterways...God of the Creeks is Mike's first attempt, at seventy-seven, at writing and publishing a literary work.  His adoration of John Steinbeck and love of California inspired him to write this historical narrative in a setting in and around San Simeon, a county away Fromm Steinbeck's beloved Salinas.

My writing roots

With dreams of writing a novel from an early age, I read the great authors, and when I was older and wiser, settled on John Steinbeck as my favorite. Tortilla Flats tickled me, Mice and Men inspired me, and East of Eden encouraged me...but making a living and raising a family superseded my ambitions of authorship.

Then in 2001, March 6th to be exact, a heart attack resulted in a four bypass surgery and a recovery that, out of boredom, forced me to take up my pen again. I continued to read and the inclination to see what I was made of as a  novelist began to rear its wordy head.  Patrick Obrian's series of exciting seafaring novels featuring James Aubrey, Lucky Jack to his crew, stirred my blood driving me back to the keyboard....The results, some years later, is my first novel, Master of the Waterways...God of the Creeks.  A prequel and sequel are in the works.

As a special note, I lavish on my dear brother Tony no small thanks.   His kindness and patience with adolescent me taught me how to be a man while germinating in my soul a fertile field for the written word. A surprise to no one, I chose Journalism as my major at Cal Poly, Pomona.

My style

Words always fascinated me. Expressing exacting what it is that I want to say, using the beauty of the right word, eliminating ambiguity, I strive to keep a flow of the English language that is easy  and exciting for the reader follow. Visualizing each scene or character, keeping the image clearly in mind and sight, is a cornerstone of my style.
